LAREDO, Texas – Locked into a pitcher’s duel in the final game of its first Heartland Conference series of the season, the Newman softball team fell in a 2-0 game to Texas A&M International Sunday morning.

The Jets (5-21, 1-2 Heartland) got a stellar effort out of Jensen Cromer in the circle, as the senior retired the first 11 Dustdevils (7-12, 2-1 Heartland) she faced. A two-out single in the fifth from the hosts plated the first run, and a sacrifice fly an inning later.

Cromer, Delaney Hiegert and Kendra Mendoza each posted a base hit. Cromer’s was a two-out triple down the left field line in the fourth, but she was stranded to end the inning.

The Jets are back in action Thursday afternoon, making a roadtrip for a doubleheader at William Jewell.
