ESU falls to No. 16 SBU in MIAA women’s tennis tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Emporia State women’s tennis team saw their season come to a close with a 5-2 loss to No. 16 Southwest Baptist on Tuesday morning in the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals in Lincoln, Neb.

Tahlia Walsh and Amy Fugit recorded an 8-6 win over the Bearcats Beatrix Federer and Sarah Brown at No. 3 doubles as the Hornets trailed 2-1 going into singles play.

Walsh got Emporia State within 3-2 with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win at #2 singles in just her third career match at the No. 2 position.

The Hornets end their season with a 7-10 record this year. It was the final dual for seniors Tawni Griffey and Amy Fugit. Griffey ended her career with a 55-28 record in singles during dual play and a 55-30 record in doubles during dual play. Fugit was 45-34 in her four year career in dual play singles with a 46-38 record in doubles action.
