WICHITA – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference has released the selections for this week’s KCAC Male Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Kyle Wilson (JR/California City, Calif.) of Bethel has been recognized as the Field Athlete of the Week, after his record-breaking performance in the shotput on Saturday at the Friends Invitational. This award is submitted and voted upon by the conference’s sports information directors.

Wilson made history on Saturday at the Friends Invitational, when he launched a shot-put ball 15.87 meters (52-1). This throw broke the Bethel school record, set by Don Penner back in 1956, which was the longest standing record for the Threshers track program. Wilson’s throw was the second best in the contest featuring NCAA D1 & juco competitiors, hit the NAIA “A” automatic qualifying mark, and is the longest in the KCAC this season (11th in the NAIA). Wilson also had a discus throw of 46.32 meters (152-0) at the contest, good for 2nd at the meet and best in the KCAC this season.

Wilson’s next chance to pad his record further will be this Saturday at the Bethel Invitational. Field events will start at 12 p.m. with the running portion of the competition to begin around 3 p.m.
