Washburn moves up to No. 3 in AVCA poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The undefeated Washburn volleyball team moved up one place in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Poll to No. 3 after adding four more 3-0 victories over the weekend.

Washburn (8-0) received three first-place votes and 1062 total points to move up as the No. 3 team in all of Division II. The Ichabods shut out Western New Mexico, Fort Lewis, West Texas A&M, and Adams State at the Skyhawks Tournament in Durango, Colo., last weekend. Seven of the Ichabods’ eight wins have been sweep victories. Washburn has also held its opponents to a .078 attacking percentage this season, currently tied for eighth in Division II.

Cal State – San Bernardino earned 35 first-place votes and moved up one spot to lead this week’s poll. Western Washington also moved up one place to No. 2 and received six first-place votes.

The Ichabods are one of four MIAA teams in the top-15 teams in the nation. Nebraska-Kearney moved up two places and is tied for sixth, Central Missouri stayed at No. 12, and Northwest Missouri moved up three places to No. 15. Central Oklahoma is receiving votes in the poll for the second week.

Washburn returns home this weekend to begin its MIAA schedule against Fort Hays State and No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney on Sept. 20 and 21 with both matches scheduled for a 6 p.m. first serve.
