Washburn tabbed second in Central Region poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In the first Division II regional rankings of the 2018 season, the NCAA announced Wednesday that No. 7 Washburn volleyball was slotted at second in the Central Region.

The Ichabods, began the week at 25-1 on the year and atop the MIAA standings as 13-1, trail top-seeded Concordia-St. Paul, who also tops the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll.

The regional rankings, which will be updated three more times, determines which teams qualify and their respective seeds for the NCAA Regional Championships, slated to take place Nov. 15-18. The NCAA Division II Central Region for volleyball is comprised of three conferences: MIAA, Northern Sun (NSIC) and Great American (GAC) and their respective member institutions, with each conference guaranteed a minimum of one representative into the eight-team single-elimination tournament.

The rest of the central region rankings featured MIAA members, Nebraska-Kearney at No. 4, Central Oklahoma at No. 7, No. 8 Central Missouri and No. 10 Northwest Missouri.

Washburn returns to action this weekend as it welcomes Lindenwood on Friday to Lee Arena to begin a four-match homestand to close its regular-season. First serve against the Lions is slated for 7 pm.
