LAWTON, Okla. – Emporia State Lady Hornets fell 86-72 on Monday to Cameron in Lawton, Okla. The Lady Hornets take their first loss on their final game of their four game road swing in Oklahoma to start the season 3-1.
The first quarter was played close by the two teams with Cameron leading 18-14 heading into the break. The Lady Hornets led 14-11 late in the quarter before the Aggies took the lead with a 7-0 run to end the quarter.
After trailing by as many as eight points at 26-18, the Lady Hornets brought the score back to two at 32-30 with 3:02 remaining in the second quarter. The Aggies fought back to extend their lead back to eight with back-to-back threes. The Lady Hornets would head into the locker room trailing 43-36 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Aggies stayed aggressive and would not allow the Lady Hornets to come closer than five points at 43-38 with 8:37 left in the quarter. Emporia State trailed by as many as 14 with 2:31 remaining in the quarter before heading into the final break trailing 65-53.
The Aggies led 70-57 at the fourth quarter media timeout with 8:15 remaining in the game. Cameron would extend their lead to 82-61 with 2:44 left in the game before the Hornets closed the gap with an 11-4 run to end the game 86-72.
The Lady Hornets were led by Tyra Jones and Tiana Moala who each recorded double-doubles in the matchup. Jones had 19 points and 10 rebounds while Moala recorded 16 points with 12 rebounds.
Emporia State will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 23 as they play host to Arkansas-Fort Smith in White Auditorium.
