TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 14 Hornets completed their sweep of Northeastern State with a 7-4 win on Saturday in Tahlequah, Okla. The RiverHawks were 14-2 at home before the Hornets three game sweep.
Mason Brown got the Hornets on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double and added two runs later in the inning on a Mack Gowing ground out and Taylor Sanagorski reaching on an error. The RiverHawks took their first lead of the series with a four run fourth inning.
The Hornets retook the lead in the top of the fifth. Alex White led off with a walk and went to third on a Ryan McBroom double. Brown hit a sac fly to tie the game and Sanagorski hit a two run homer to give Emporia State a 6-4 lead. Brown would hit another sac fly in the seventh for the games final score.
Brown was one for three with three RBI and a run scored while McBroom went two for two with two runs scored and Sanagorski hit a two run home run in four at bats. Jordan Plank scattered eight hits over six innings while giving up four runs to improve to 5-1 on the year. Layne Downing worked two scoreless innings and Nathan Whitcomb worked a perfect ninth for his seventh save.
The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 18 when they take on Washburn. First pitch of the Turnpike Tussle is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex.
