INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Washburn Ichabod football co-defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator Zach Watkins has been selected as one of 34 NCAA football coaches who were picked to attend the 2017 NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy Feb. 9-12 in Tampa, Fla.

“I’m very honored and humbled to be selected for the NCAA leadership academy,” Watkins said. “I’m looking forward to learning from some incredible people.”

The academy was developed in 2011 as a collaborative effort between NCAA leadership development and NFL Player Engagement to boost diversity in the college game. The invitees from NCAA member schools are coaches who have fewer than eight years of college coaching experience. The college coaches will learn and network with NCAA athletics administrators, NCAA national office staff, current and former NFL players, NFL directors of player personnel and NFL Player Engagement staff.

Watkins was the only coach selected out of the MIAA and one of only two who coach at the NCAA Division II ranks.
