Washburn selected first in MIAA preseason softball poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA has released its 2019 Preseason Softball Coaches Poll. Atop of the poll was Washburn, the 2018 MIAA regular season champions. The Ichabods earned 162 points with 11 first-place votes.

Central Oklahoma was picked second with 151 points and two first-place votes. Central Missouri trailed the Bronchos by 10 points to be tabbed for third place. Fourth place was given to Northwest Missouri with 133 points. Rounding out the top-five was Missouri Western with 113 points.

Just edged out, by two points, from the top-five was Northeastern State. Lindenwood was slotted seventh followed by 2018 MIAA tournament champions Emporia State. The Hornets picked up the remaining first-place vote as well.

Ninth-place belonged to Pittsburg State as Missouri Southern finished in the 10th spot. Nebraska Kearney missed the top-10 by a single point as Fort Hays State and Southwest Baptist were 12th and 13th respectively. Lincoln rounded out the 2019 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

The 2019 softball season opens for play on Friday, Feb. 1 with conference games beginning Friday, March 8. For the complete schedule for the 2019 MIAA softball season, click here.
