Washburn’s Scardanzan earns All-American status for third time

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Washburn Ichabod track and field team opened the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships with one podium finish on a cool and windy day on the campus of Grand Valley State. The multi events will wrap up on Friday.

VIRGI SCARDANZAN – POLE VAULT
Scardanzan earned her third All-American award with her second-place tie after clearing 4.15m (13-07.25) before going out at 4.25m. After passing on the opening heights of 3.80m and 3.95m, Scardanzan cleared 4.05m and 4.15m (13-07.25) before going out at the 4.25m (13-11.25). Scardanzan was also 2nd at the NCAA Indoor Championships this season. Her clearance at 4.15m was the third-best in Washburn pole vaulting history. Scardanzan has the best-finish in the NCAA outdoor championships and two top-two finishes at NCAA Championship events while also having the 2020 indoor championship canceled due to COVID 19. Scardanzan’s All-American awards have come from the 2021 outdoor, 2021 indoor and 2020 indoor championship. The second-place finish also gained the Ichabods seven team points.

LOGAN STOCK – DECATHLON
After the first five events, Stock is in a tie for eighth place with 3,619 points. After finishing 12th in the 100m in a time of 11.47, he finished eighth in the long jump at 6.81m (22-04.25) scoring 769 points. Stock finished 13th in the shot put scoring 560 points after a throw of 11.23m (36-10.25). He had his best finish of the opening day in the high jump where he tied his personal best with a mark of 2.03m (6-08.00) scoring 831 points. In his final event, he placed 13th in the 400m in a time of 52.57 scoring 700 points.
Friday’s action will start at 8 a.m. with the 110m hurdles followed by the discus, the pole vault, the javelin and finish with the 1500m.

SHAE WARE – HEPTATHLON
Ware will enter the final day of the heptathlon in 13th place with 2,697 points, less than 250 from 10th place. Ware opened the day finishing 13th in the 100m in a time of 15.61 gaining 763 points. In the high jump, Ware was 13th scoring 632 points after a jump of 1.51m (4-11.50). Ware finished 12th in the shot put with a PR of 10.24m (33-07.25) recording 545 points. Ware finished the day with the 200m in a time of 26.47 scoring 757 points.
On Friday, the final three events beginning with the long jump is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. followed by the javelin and then the 800m.

CONNOR LAST – LONG JUMP
Last finished 12th in the long jump after a pair of jumps of 7.21m (23-08.00). He recorded that distance on his first and third jumps with a foul in between. The mark is the fourth-best of his Ichabod career during the outdoor season.

ROMAIN HENRY – 400m HURDLES – PRELIMS
Competing the first of two hurdle events at the NCAA Championships, Henry finished 10th in the 400m preliminaries missing out the Sunday finals after running a time of 53.08.
