NAIA releases statement on coronavirus impact fo winter championships

KANSAS CITY — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has released a statement regarding the coronavirus to its member institutions, directing them to the resources provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as they complete winter competition and enter postseason play.

Last week, the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases issued a warning of possible school closings and suspension of mass public gatherings.

The virus, also known as 2019-nCoV or COVID-19, originated in China and has now spread to cases in the United States.

“While the NAIA and its hosts continue preparations for all winter championships and the national office prepares for its national convention, we remain cognizant of the threat that the coronavirus could bring to the health and safety of all involved at these events,” said NAIA President and CEO Jim Carr. “We will continue to monitor these events and will coordinate with the CDC and all state and local health authorities.”
