Newman finishes seventh in Commissioner’s Cup

WICHITA – Picking up strong performances from softball and women’s golf, Newman finished seventh in the 2016-17 Heartland Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings.

The Jet softball team finished fifth in the conference standings, while the women’s golf team claimed sixth place at the conference championships.

Newman picked up 52 out of a possible 102 points throughout the 2016-17 year, for a final percentage of 0.510, just a thousandth of a point behind sixth-place Rogers State. Dallas Baptist won the cup for the second straight year.

The commissioner’s cup, sponsored by Adidas, is in its second year, and honors the top athletic institutions within the Heartland Conference. Cup points are awarded to institutions based on their finish within the conference’s sponsored sports. Regular season standings are used for baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball, while finish at the conference championship is used for cross country and golf.
