Sweany has spent the previous two years as an Intern Assistant SID at Corban University in Salem, Ore., and during that period, covered all 17 of the University’s intercollegiate athletic offerings in varying capacities.
During his tenure with the Warriors, he was a member of the athletic communications office that was ranked the 8th-best website in the NAIA, along with having the 1st and 2nd-ranked feature videos by the authority of NAIA-SIDA for the 2019-20 athletic year.
“Brendan comes from an award-winning athletic communications department and we are excited to have him take the reins as our Sports Information Director,” said Interim Athletic Director Ed Loeb. “With his experience in story-writing and sports-statting, he should be able to hit the ground running and we believe there will be a seamless transition this fall.”
Prior to his time at Corban, he graduated from San Diego Christian College in Santee, Calif. with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2019. Sweany was a collegiate baseball player at the school, as he competed in the NAIA as a part of the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC).
Sweany’s experience as both an NAIA athlete and a intern in an NAIA athletic communications office gives him a unique perspective into the lives of the student-athletes that he will serve, along with the necessary set of skills that it takes to run a successful athletic communications department at this level.
“He will bring a fresh perspective to Moundbuilder Athletics and will help us continue to showcase our award winning student-athletes and athletic programs,” Loeb said.
He comes to Winfield with his new wife, Bethany, who was a volleyball player at the NAIA level during her collegiate days. Sweany’s work will be carried out remotely until the beginning of the month of August.
