Washburn places two on GCAA All-Region team

NORMAN, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabod golf team placed two student athletes on the Golf Coaches Association all-Region team which was announced today as seniors Blake Allen and Andrew Beckler were both honored. It was the second-straight season Allen was selected for the team. The Ichabods were the only MIAA school to have two all-region selections and one of only two in the region to be represented by multiple players.

This season, Allen played in all six events tallying 16 rounds recording a 71.88 stroke average tying for the team lead in a shortened COVID-19 spring season. He placed in the top-10 at four competitions and had two top-five finishes tying for third at the MSSU Fall Invitational shooting 3-under par, 140 (69, 71). Allen was a PING all-region selection in 2019. At Washburn he has played in 95 rounds, carding a career-best score of 64 (8-under par) in the second round of the NCAA Super Regional as a freshman. He was a two-time individual winner of the Washburn Invitational and was named to the All-MIAA team in 2018 and 2019 as a sophomore and junior as no all-MIAA team was recognized this year.

Beckler played in all six events tying for the team lead with a 71.88 stroke average before season was canceled. He placed in the top-10 at three competitions and had two top-five showings tying for fourth at the Holiday Inn Express Classic and was fifth at the Miami Intercollegiate. At Washburn he has recorded a 73.18 stroke average in 17 events with 44 rounds played recording a total of nine top-10 finishes and two top-five placings earning all-MIAA honors as a junior.
